my 9 and 10 yrs old daughters were burned in a house fire on 12/26/06. The 10 yrs old wears a “sleeve” on her burned area. The 9 yrs old has 3rd degree burns on her arms & back. There are 2 different doctors treating them. The 9 yrs old doctor does not utilize a “covering” on her arms. I want the best treatment for their healing. Any advice would be appreciated.

In my field, I’ve been introduced to silicone gloves, sleeves, and other garments that are supposed to aid in healing for burn victims and reduce the appearance of scarring. I assume it is the supple nature of silicone having some kind of mechanical effect on the skin, but nobody has explained why or how this happens.

When the UK had the subway bombing, I saw a news report about a first responder who applied some treatment to a woman’s burned face. It looked like some sort of mask. The reporter said that this first responder may have saved the woman from having bad scars on her face. What did the first responder use to treat that woman?
